The vibrant western region of Odisha, where the Kosali–Sambalpuri language resonates across daily life, encompasses a culturally rich tapestry of districts including Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Boudh, Sundargarh, Balangir, Sonepur, Deogarh, and Nuapada. Despite its distinct sociocultural identity, diverse linguistic expressions, and a robust speaker base, Kosali–Sambalpuri continues to be narrowly classified as a mere dialect of Odia—overlooking its unique phonetic structure and deep-rooted heritage.
